SUBZERO actually did everyone a favor, when they pulled their evaporators, as well as all of their replacement parts, off the independent market, due to the known leaking issues of their evaporators, unlike any other brand! RPR has made sure that the exact size specs are maintained, to fit SUBZERO refrigerators/freezers, but the materials used are the Proper, highest quality, corrosive resistant, 90% Pure Refrigeration Aluminum, which should lead to many more years of life, than the oem evaporators, mixed with corrosive copper, at a fraction of the oem price!

How do I know if my refrigerator evaporator is leaking? Classic Symptom of a leaking evaporator: Ice Formation, covered by frost, on the inside back wall(left pic) Evaporator capillary inlet, freezing up, with back wall removed(right pic)

Notice the exact location, in both pics above, of the frost and ice buildup. The rest of the evaporator is void of any freon flowing through it, which is why you can see the silver look of the tubing, after, and below the frost. The point where the frost is built up, is the farthest that the freon is flowing due to a great loss in freon, because the evaporator is likely leaking, which also causes all the oil from the compressor to be pumped down, into the evaporator, and with a leak in the evaporator, the oil pools up and collects in the evaporator, and restricts it, and the compressor cannot suck the oil back up to the compressor, so the compressor runs low on oil, or without oil, and overheats the compressor, causing damage to it internally, or it locks up. Now the evaporator & compressor, both need to be replaced, along with the filter/drier, to get the refrigerator back into normal operationg condition. If you suspect that the compressor has been running a long time, weeks or months, low on freon, and the oil pooling into the evaporator, then you will need to order the evaporator, for your Model#, on this page, as well as the filter/drier, and also the corresponding compressor for your Model#, which you can find here to complete the repair properly, or it is likely the compressor will fail, soon after. If your system is an R12 system, it will be updated to the new Freon standard using 414b(hotshot), 414a(causes a slight whining noise most techs say) or R134a(and the entire system MUST be evacuated and cleaned, to rid it of any previous oil residue or particulants). This is general practice, and R12 is not used anymore, to do part replacement, and recharge, of any R12 systems!
